What Is an Estate Cleanout?
An estate cleanout is the process of clearing out a home after the passing of a loved one — or in preparation for selling, renting, or transitioning the property. It's different from a regular junk removal job because it typically involves the entire contents of a home: furniture, clothing, kitchenware, documents, appliances, sentimental items, and everything in between.
For families in Toronto and across the GTA, this process often happens during an already emotionally difficult time. The goal of a good estate cleanout crew is to take the logistical burden off your shoulders so you can focus on what matters. At Astro Junkers, we handle estate cleanouts across Toronto, Etobicoke, Mississauga, and every city in the GTA with full care and discretion.
We understand that an estate cleanout isn't just a junk removal job. We treat every home we enter with the same respect we'd want shown to our own family. Nothing gets thrown away without your guidance, and anything that can be donated or preserved is given priority.
How the Estate Cleanout Process Works
Most families have never been through this before and don't know what to expect. Here's how our estate cleanout process works from start to finish:
Book a free on-site assessment
We come to the property, walk through every room with you, and give you a clear upfront all-inclusive price. No obligation — if you decide not to proceed, you owe us nothing. You can book online at astrojunkers.com/book or call us at 647-954-6824.
You tell us what to keep, donate, or remove
Before we start, we walk through the home together. You flag anything that needs to stay — sentimental items, valuables, documents, keepsakes. Everything else we handle. You don't need to pre-sort or move anything yourself.
We clear the home efficiently and respectfully
Our crew handles all the heavy lifting — furniture, appliances, boxes, clothing, and everything else. We work quickly but carefully, treating the space and its contents with respect throughout the process.
We sort what can be donated or recycled
Up to 60% of what we collect gets donated to local Toronto-area charities or recycled. Furniture in good condition, clothing, kitchenware — if someone else can use it, we make sure it gets there rather than a landfill. This is one of the things that matters most to us.
We sweep up and leave the property clean
After every estate cleanout, we do a full sweep of the property. You get a home that's cleared, clean, and ready for whatever comes next — whether that's a sale, a rental, or a family decision about what to do with the property.
How Much Does an Estate Cleanout Cost in Toronto?
Estate cleanout pricing depends on the size of the home and how much needs to be removed. We price based on how much space your items fill in our truck — so a small condo cleanout and a full house cleanout are priced proportionally. The good news is that you only ever pay for what you actually have, and the price is always confirmed upfront before we start.
Here's how the sizing breaks down:
Every estate is different — volume, accessibility, and the number of trips required all play a role in your final price. The only way to get an accurate number is to book a free on-site estimate. We'll walk through the property with you and give you an all-inclusive upfront price that covers labour, loading, disposal, and sweep-up after. No hidden fees, no surprise add-ons.
We'll handle the hard part — you focus on your family
Free on-site estimate, same-day available, fully insured. Compassionate and discreet on every estate cleanout across Toronto and the GTA.

What Happens to Donated Items?
One of the things families care most about is knowing that their loved one's belongings are going somewhere meaningful — not just to a landfill. Here's what happens to the items we collect:
- Furniture in good condition — donated to Toronto-area charities and organizations that redistribute to families in need
- Clothing and textiles — sorted and donated to local shelters and clothing programs
- Kitchenware and household items — donated wherever possible to organizations that can use them
- Electronics — taken to certified e-waste recycling facilities
- Appliances — responsibly recycled through licensed facilities
- Everything else — taken to licensed waste disposal facilities in compliance with Toronto and Ontario regulations
Up to 60% of every load we haul stays out of landfill. For families going through a difficult time, knowing that their loved one's belongings found a second life is often a meaningful comfort.
Tips for Families Going Through an Estate Cleanout
Based on everything we've seen and the families we've helped across Toronto, here's our honest advice:
- Don't rush yourself. You don't need to have everything sorted before we arrive. That's what we're here for.
- Take what's meaningful first. Walk through the home before we start and take anything sentimental, valuable, or important for the estate. Once you've done that, leave the rest to us.
- Tell us about anything special. If there are items of value — jewelry, collectibles, artwork — that should be appraised before disposal, let us know. We'll set them aside.
- You don't have to be there the whole time. Many families find it hard to watch the process. Once we've done the initial walkthrough together, you can step away. We'll handle everything and call you when we're done.
- Ask about what gets donated. We're happy to tell you where items are going. Some families find it comforting to know their loved one's furniture is going to help another family in Toronto.
